AL-KO Pressed Steel Coupling - AK7
Trailer items can either be shipped, collected or fitted by us. We offer full servicing and replacement of all unbaked trailer parts at our base at Queen Mary Sailing Club in Surrey. Click here for full details.
This high quality coupling is suitable for all un-braked trailers up to 750kg and is compatible with round or square draw bars*. It is available in 4 sizes.
- 40mm
- 50mm
- 60mm
- 70mm
The size refers to the inside width of the coupling. This will be the same as width of the trailer's draw bar* that the coupling is bolted onto. We also sell breakaway/safety cables which are legally required in case the trailer disconnects from the tow bar.
Specifications:
- Suitable for all un-braked trailers up to 750kg
- Fits 50mm ball (on tow bar/hitch)
- Fits round or square draw bars* of each of the 4 sizes
- Hole centres: 90mm
- Bolt/nut size required: M12
-
Bolt length required: varies according to the trailer and fittings**
Operation
- When disconnected from the towing vehicle, the hand lever of the coupling head points upwards at an angle, showing the user a red indicator meaning 'not yet locked'
- When dropped onto the tow bar, the hand lever visibly and audibly engages in the horizontal position, which indicates that the trailer is safely connected. In use, the ball of the tow bar is completely enclosed by the ball socket of the coupling
- If the red indicator is visible when the hitch is secured onto the tow bar, the wear limit between the towbar and the coupling has not yet been reached. If the red indicator is no longer visible when the trailer is hitched, immediate maintenance or replacement of the hitch is required
Maintenance tips
- Check regularly for wear (as above)
- Check regularly for the tightness of the M12 securing bolts/nuts
- Apply grease: up inside the ball socket of the coupling
- Apply oil: down into where the hand lever pivots inside the body of the coupling
*the term draw bar refers to the section of the trailer that projects forwards and to which the coupling bolts onto
**we sell many lengths of 12mm hi-tensile steel bolts plus nyloc nuts and washers
