We love this accessory so much as it really saves your back. Why would you want to compress your spine before going windsurfing by physically/manually downhauling a larger sail? It just makes no sense. Using this removes 100% of the compression load from your spine and allows you to look at the mast bend, batten position and looseness of the leech as you easily downhaul your sail. This helps you to understand more about how your rig reacts to the application of varying amounts of downhaul.
There are mast extensions out there with a ratchet lever for easy downhauling yet these are very expensive and you need one for each sail if you want to rig more than one at a time. Ratchets can seize-up and need maintenance whereas this winch does not. This winch can be used with all your existing mast extensions.
A design unchanged for 20 years, Simon has had one of these winches for this amount of time and, after extended personal and client use, it still looks great and remains in excellent working condition. It has helped to look after many backs over the years and buying one of these is far cheaper than paying for a chiropractor!
