ILCA/Laser aluminium gorilla-style tiller with tiller extension. This regular specification set is good value and ideal for club racing, use on older boats and for learning sailing skills - where a full carbon tiller and extension is not necessary.

The tiller is fitted with a stainless steel traveller plate, clamcleat and a cast metal fitting on the rudder stock end. The tiller extension has an EVA foam grip and RWO Omniflex UJ/joint.

The difference between carbon and aluminium?

Carbon produces a very light weight, high strength extension. The stiffness can be controlled by the materials used and, because it has a certain amount of flex, it will not bend out of shape. This technology is more expensive. The use of aluminium tube, on the other hand, is a simpler lower-tech solution that of more affordable. Aluminium tube can bend out of shape but can usually be straightened. If the tube is made too thick to help reduce the risk of bending, the tube becomes too heavy to use. Tiller extensions therefore are a trade off between cost, strength and usage.

This tiller is also compatible with the Laser 2 rudder stock yet the cast metal fitting may require rubbing down a little with sandpaper/emery cloth to make it fit. Also the drilling of a new hole is required for the retaining pin to go through.
