Rooster Aluminium Tiller Extension - ILCA/Laser

Length: 103cm / 40". Made from anodised 16mm aluminium tube and fitted with a RWO Omniflex joint/UJ and a rubber grip. This regular specification extension is good value and ideal for club racing, use on older boats and for learning sailing skills - where a full carbon one is not necessary.

The difference between carbon and aluminium?

Carbon produces a very light weight, high strength extension. The stiffness can be controlled by the materials used and, because it has a certain amount of flex, it will not bend out of shape. This technology is more expensive. The use of aluminium tube, on the other hand, is a simpler lower-tech solution that of more affordable. Aluminium tube can bend out of shape but can usually be straightened. If the tube is made too thick to help reduce the risk of bending, the tube becomes too heavy to use. Tiller extensions therefore are a trade off between cost, strength and usage.
