Rooster Teflon-coated Telltales
A pack of three green and three red self-adhesive wool telltales (with Teflon® treatment) that don't stick to sail in the wet.
A comparison of a traditional untreated telltale (green) versus one treated with Teflon® (red) can be seen in the image.
The Rooster guide to telltale placement on a ILCA/ Laser
The position for ILCA/Laser telltales is essential for upwind speed performance. If they are placed too close to the mast the air flow is too turbulent. When placed too far back the telltales are less sensitive and this may result in pinching. When the telltales are too high they will be less visible whilst focusing on the water ahead.
The optimum position is just above and in front of the window: 40cm (15.75") above the front of the window and 20cm (7.87") forward of this point.
The optimum position for ILCA 6/Laser Radial sails is 20cm (7.87") up and 20cm (7.87") forward of the front of the window.
How to attach telltales to a sail
- Ensure the sail is completely dry
- Thoroughly clean the area where the telltales are to be applied with acetone or isopropyl alcohol (wearing gloves and using the solvent in a well-ventilated area)
- Warm up the area with a hairdryer on a low setting where the telltales are going to be applied
- Remove the backing paper, activate the glue with the hair dryer and place the telltale onto the sail in the correct position applying good pressure
- Rub down well to ensure good adhesion
